On Dr. John's first major-label effort, and first vocal studio album in ten years, he performs a set of pop standards including Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" and Johnny Mercer's "Accentuate the Positive." After starting out with a wild stage act and unusual costumes, Dr. John has evolved into a vocal stylist and piano virtuoso, which makes the idea of doing this sort of material cenlifscedenawin.kiegremocnoliserkanisqueftopever.co: $

'In a Sentimental Mood' is the twelfth album by New Orleans singer and pianist Dr. John. There are some fine musical performances like "Accentuate The Positive" with a notable edgy and cool sax solo by Joel Peskin. There are some true "oldies but goodies", songs by Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter/5(45).

In a Sentimental Mood, along with Trippen live, are my first purchases of Dr John on CD and I'm really pleased, I'm a little surprised how much I like both these albums, good quality recordings, great song selection, I wish there were more tracks, so now feel the need to add some more Dr John to my collection, nothing negative to say, all good /5(54).

Some of the tracks on this CD are singularly special. "Makin' Whoopee" featuring Rickie Lee Jones is an absolute treat, a very nice pairing. "My Buddy" is just achingly good, as is "More Than You Know." There are some fine musical performances, notably the sax solo by Joel Peskin--edgy and cool/5(49).
